BA531 Data Mining
Course Abstract Data mining is the computationally intelligent extraction of information from large databases. It is the process of automated presentation of patterns, rules, and functions from complex databases to make critical business decisions. This course introduces data mining concepts, principles and algorithms. It helps students explore both the conceptual framework of data mining and its applications. Students will learn how to extract and discover relevant knowledge from data warehouse using different techniques and data reduction strategies such as dimension reduction, data compression, etc. Topics covered include: Concepts of data warehousing and OLAP technology for data mining, data preprocessing, primitives, languages, system architectures for data mining, concept description, association analysis, sequential pattern analysis, classification and prediction, cluster analysis, mining complex types of data, data mining applications, and trends in data mining.
