BA509 Operations And Production Management
Course Abstract This course provides a conceptual framework underlying the production/operations function for efficient management decisions involving input-output transformations, work design and processing, capacity planning and labor-force management, scheduling, assignment, and inventory control. This course presents tools and techniques for effective process and supply chain selection, design, planning and control. It recognises the different nature of the tasks and issues involved in managing the production function in a manufacturing company and the operations function in a service organisation. Topics covered include the nature of operations management and its performance objectives, design-related activities which set the form and function of the operation and its products or services, the planning and control activities necessary to run the operation over time, and improving the way operations perform their function. This course helps students understand the performance objectives of operations that are applicable to all types of organisation, examine the activity areas in which operations managers are involved, and study examples illustrating the principles of operations in a practical context.
