>> Proceed to demo lecture

Course Abstract

This course will continue where ART391, Introduction to Web Deisgn left off. Armed with the basic tools from that introduction, including a solid understanding of Adobe Photoshop® as our image creator and editor, and Macromedia Dreamweaver® as our HTML editor we will proceed to expand our creative web design skills to an advanced level.

We will begin with a discussion about our approach, including establishing a foundation consisting of our definition of art on the web. From this point forward, we will approach website creation as an endeavor with an artistic goal as opposed to a technical excercise. Therefore, our goal will be to use what advanced tools with come in contact with to provide a means to our creative end.

  • We will use Macromedia Flash® animation software to create low-bandwidth animation and interactive buttons and effects on our advanced design palette.
  • We will continue to use Photoshop and Dreamweaver in combination with new tools, such as Javascript commands and Flash, to create original and unique web spaces.
  • We will expose ourselves to further possibilities through streaming and downloadable video and audio media. We will have a brief discussion/exposure to editing digital video and delivering it through a sophisitcated web environment.
  • If time allows, we will expose ourselves to data-driven sites using server technologies to deliver pages dynamically and discuss this in relation to the expansion of the interactive element.

The focus of this course will be on using advanced web development tools to create a unique and original web space.
